Selvapiana

Selvapiana is a lively and populated fraction of the Municipality of Bagno di Romagna, located on Poggio delle Corsicchie which slopes towards the Savio River, in the midst of fine chestnut woods and a still worked countryside. Conquered by Florence in 1404, it then became part of the "Capitanato della Val di Bagno" as a community with rural statutes.

The oldest part was built around the castle on a rocky spur (668 meters above sea level), while further down (537 asl), on the mid-coast below, the central core of the village has developed, formed by two agglomerations - the Chiesina and the Casa - crossed by the road and joined by the parish church, dedicated to Saints Quirico and Giulitta.
On the site of the ancient "castrum", destroyed by the Florentines in 1535, there remain today an oratory called "del Castello" and a hamlet.

Why visit it

The small town is set in a splendid landscape-environmental context, where it's possible to get in touch with nature and observe spectacular scenarios, walk along paths through pristine woods and see breathtaking panoramas.

When to go and what to see

During the chestnut harvesting period the town is particularly active and lively; on Sundays in October, the famous food festivals (Ottobre Selvapianese) dedicated to local products take place every year: first and foremost chestnuts, but also mushrooms and truffles.
