The world's top national team competition in men's tennis, the Davis Cup (Davis Cup by Rakuten), returns to Bologna after 46 years.
A return that coincides with an important historical anniversary for Italian tennis: the centenary of the Italian national team's first participation in this great sporting event. In fact, it was in June 1922, that Italy faced Great Britain on the grass of Roehampton.
The event will take place Sept. 13-18, 2022, at the Unipol Arena in Casalecchio di Reno.
It will be hosted by one of the four groups (Group A) of the final stage featuring four teams - Argentina, Croatia, Italy and Sweden.
The group stage matches will be played in four different cities: in addition to Bologna, also Hamburg, Glasgow and Valencia. The 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups of four, with the top two teams advancing to the final round. For each match, two singles and one doubles match will be played, all best of two sets out of three.
The final stage scoreboard will be compiled by pairing by draw in the quarterfinals the winner of each group with a runner-up from the other groups.
The schedule of matches, which will begin at 3 p.m., is as follows:
Sept. 13: Argentina-Sweden
Sept. 14: Italy-Croatia
Sept. 15: Croatia-Sweden
Sept. 16: Italy-Argentina
Sept. 17: Croatia-Argentina
Sept. 18: Italy-Sweden
Tourist packages are also available, created in collaboration with Bologna Welcome, to combine the passion for tennis with hotel services, transfers and experiences that allow people to enjoy the beauty of the city of Bologna and Emilia-Romagna.
