From 31st May to 13th July, Ravenna Festival is back with a rich programme of events – from music to ballet and theatre.
"Donde hay música no puede haber cosa mala" (Cervantes, Don Quijote) is the title of the 36th edition of the festival – which uses words by Sancho Panza, the most famous squire in world literature. These words make us reflect on courage and the transformation of this value, from the epic tradition to Cervantes' knight-errant, to the meaning that heroism can take on in the present day – civic and spiritual courage, the courage to begin again, to create and hope.
The festival opens on 31st May with Riccardo Muti and Orchestra Cherubini, along with violinist Giuseppe Gibboni, and goes on with top conductors such as Zubin Mehta and Daniel Harding, respectively with Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, while Accademia Bizantina and Alessandro Tampieri liven up a night dedicated to Vivaldi.
Worth a mention in the list of artists are, among others: Cat Power, Max Richter, Pietro Fresa, Alexander Gadjiev and many others.
The programme also features various theatre shows, with the journey into non-European literature of Grande Teatro di Lido Adriano with Bhagavadgītā, the third and last adventure of Don Quijote with Marco Martinelli and Ermanna Montanari of Teatro delle Albe/Ravenna Teatro and Marco Baliani taking on the stage of the Dante Alighieri theatre with his Del coraggio silenzioso.
Ravenna Festival also touches other locations out of town, such as Cervia-Milano Marittima with Dardust, Alessio Boni and Carlo Lucarelli; Pavaglione in Lugo with Enrico Rava & Stefano Bollani, Malika Ayane with Orchestra La Corelli and Uri Caine and Palazzo San Giacomo in Russi with Lunga notte irlandese and La notte del spiritual jazz.
