From Saturday 23rd September to Sunday 7th January 2024, the Museo Civico di San Domenico will host the new photographic exhibition Eve Arnold. The Opera, 1950-1980.
Eve Arnold was the first woman to join the prestigious Magnum Photos agency in 1951, for which she produced an eclectic range of work: from portraits of the great film stars to reportages in which she tackled themes and issues that are still highly topical.
In addition to the numerous shoots on the sets of unforgettable films, where she photographed stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford and Orson Welles, there are various topics such as racism in the States, women's emancipation and the interaction between different cultures in the world.
The photographer's complete oeuvre will be displayed, from her first black-and-white shots of 1950s New York to her last colour works, taken at the age of 85, with around 170 images, many of which have never been exhibited before.
