From 18 March to 2 July 2023, at the San Domenico Museum in Forlì, a surprising exhibition entitled "The art of fashion. The age of dreams and revolutions. 1789 – 1968”, dedicated to the fascinating relationship between art and fashion in the period from the Ancien Régime to the second half of the twentieth century.
On display in the halls of the San Domenico Museums, around 300 works await you, including paintings, sculptures, period and contemporary clothing by great stylists, in an innovative exhibition itinerary that will bring together the great masterpieces of art history with the greatest testimonies of fashion history.
The relationship between art and fashion has always been characterized by reciprocal influences, in a game of roles that makes art the mirror of society and fashion the expression of its symbolic reality, the sign of social change throughout history.
Fashion as a synonym of luxury and seduction, innovation and conformism, disguise and the art of appearing, which tells the story of the development of modernity.
Art as inspiration, expression and diffusion of models and behaviours.
From the end of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century, the relationship between art and fashion becomes more intense: artists design clothes and create fashion communication, stylists collect works of art and make them an object of inspiration or imitation for their creations.
