From October 29th 2023 to March 10th 2024, the Maramotti Collection in Reggio Emilia will host the exhibition Giulia Andreani - L’improduttiva, a project composed of an organic body of paintings, including some large-format ones and watercolors.
Andreani's work starts from the elaboration of collective memories, from fragments of history in danger of being lost. She recovers them and transforms them into articulate pictorial compositions, into visual collages constructed by correspondences.
Her primary source of research and inspiration are archives, and in particular the objects of the analog era that they contain: faded letters, now yellowed documents and above all black and white photographic prints that the artist selects, collects and filters in a non-linear way, restoring their essential elements.
The point of departure is the iconographic materials contained in some archives of Reggio Emilia, through which the artist investigated the historical and socio-political context of the city, focusing on the notions of confinement and imprisonment, closely related to the history of women.
