On his journey to Romagna in 1502, as a military engineer in the retinue of Cesare Borgia, Leonardo da Vinci scouted the city of Cesena and sketched its walls and fortress. Not only: he also wrote witty reflections on the behaviour of fluids, the marks left by river waters, and the relationship with the territory.

From 1 July, an exhibition at the Rocca Malatestiana in Cesena offers an exclusive selection of images processed by the Gruppo Fotografico 93, taken during excursions along the Savio river, from its springs on Monte Fumaiolo to its mouth on the Adriatic Sea, in a comparison with Leonardo's singular gaze, thanks to the annotations and reproductions of the drawings by the Tuscan genius.

The aim is to place a special spotlight on the knowledge of river waters in relation to the landscape, to stimulate a new awareness of climate change, and to grasp the seductive beauty of this natural element.

The exhibition Leonardo and the Shapes of Water will be open until 30 July 2023 on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The exhibition is organised as part of the initiatives promoted by Associazione Internazionale Le Vie Leonardo Da Vinci.

On Saturday, July 1st a seriess of conferences will take place at the Rocca. See here for further details.
