In the old town of Sarsina, on the two Sundays before Easter, the most important Spring festival in Romagna has been held for almost four decades: the Sagra della Pagnotta - The Easter Bread Feast.
The feast celebrates one of the most original desserts of Romagna cuisine, typical of the Savio Valley and, in a very special way, of Sarsina.
In this 39th edition of Sagra della Pagnotta there will also be stands with other typical products of the area, both in gastronomy and craftsmanship.
Also scheduled are the Magna Pagnotta Competition (guess the weight of the loaf!), the Homemade Loaf Competition (the public will choose the best loaf).
And more: free guided tours of the National Archaeological Museum and entertainment for children. Music in the afternoon with DJ set and street concerts by Sarsina Band.
On March 24th, at 4.30 pm, the show Cabaret Circo Inzir will take place at Teatro Silvio Pellico.
THE EASTER PAGNOTTA
The Pagnotta is of ancient origins and, like many similar preparations, it was once nothing more than a sweetened bread, often enriched with some raisins, a specialty never lacking in peasant homes.
It was tradition to start Easter day with a hearty breakfast to be eaten all together as a family, with this very special "bread", accompanied by blessed eggs, homemade salami and Sangiovese red wine.
