Bibbiano

Bibbiano is located in the foothills, in the valley of the Enza river.

The fertility of the land and the vitality of the local peasants led to the development of agricultural activities, which have been for centuries the main source of sustenance for the local inhabitants. The famous Parmigiano Reggiano has been produced in this Matildic Land for over seven centuries, so that the town has been called the "Cradle of Parmigiano Reggiano”.

Why visit it

In the centre of the Barco roundabout, on the Provincial Road No. 28 - an important junction to Cavriago and Reggio Emilia - , is the Monument to the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, a sculpture by Michelangelo Galliani representing a 3-metre high point of Parmigiano Reggiano made with 32 tons of Carrara marble.

Thanks to this gastronomic excellence the town deserves a tour of one of the 6 local cheese factories or of the Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori (Wines and Flavours Route) of the Scandiano and Canossa Hills, a route dedicated to people interested in gastronomic and historical-cultural traditions: wineries, farms, vinegar cellars, cheese factories and dairies, wine shops, restaurants and holiday farms, food shops, in search of an ancient, genuine and unusual world.

Do not miss

Other places worth visiting are the Town Hall, dating back to the late XIX century with Art Nouveau decorative elements, the S. Maria Assunta Parish Church, one of the most ancient in the diocese (X century, then renovated) and several contemporary-art monuments, starting from the Stele of Bianello, a work by Graziano Pompili in the centre of the square of Bianello (one of the biggest terracotta steles, 6-metre high) and "Dialogue" by Vasco Montecchi, a sculptural group made of three agile towering female figures.
