Craftsmanship in Emilia-Romagna has its roots in ancient traditions linked mostly to the historical dedication to agricultural production in the region. Despite the incessant advance of modernity, its inhabitants have never abandoned these traditions and have worked with pride to remain steadfast in their everyday manufacturing and social life.
All their creations have a firm connection with the land: from the canvases of Romagna made from hemp to the ceramics made from the clay that once came directly from the ravines of the Apennines.
Even today these ancient crafts have anything but a marginal role in the cities, towns and small villages. Where the tradition of “knowing how to work with your hands” seems to be disappearing, high-quality workshops and creative young people are intervening to keep that history alive and make sure this knowledge is not forgotten.
This means that today, visitors can choose from a number of different itineraries to discover these ancient secrets in the workshops of Emilia-Romagna, to learn about and admire first-hand the work of these new “masters”.
