Useful tips for a pet-friendly trip
The first stage of the journey is Cesenatico, a city that combines history, sea and nature. Start the day strolling along the Porto Canale Leonardesco and admiring the historical boats of the Maritime Museum, not only outside but also in the indoor section while your dog explores with you.
Here you will also find ample spaces to relax and take some pictures together. Continue to the Parco di Levante, perfect for a stroll in tranquillity. The tree-lined avenues, lawns and ponds make it an ideal place for your dog to play safely, far from city traffic. For lunch, you will have no problem because many trattorias and restaurants in the city centre also welcome dog owners.
In the afternoon, you can walk on the beach: in summer you can relax at dog-friendly bathing establishments and areas equipped for dogs, such as Zona Cesarini in Valverde di Cesenatico, a free beach with surveillance and a shaded area where your furry friends are welcome, while in winter the seafront becomes a paradise for running and playing without limits.
You can end the day with a sunset dinner at a harbour-side restaurant, with your faithful companion at your side.
The second day takes you to Gatteo and Gatteo Mare, two places that mix history and Romagna hospitality.
Stroll through the streets of the historic village of Gatteo, exploring the Malatesta Castle and the Church of San Lorenzo. The center is perfect for an easy walk to discover picturesque places together with your dog. From here, move towards Gatteo Mare and enjoy the seafront with large green areas to have a break. We recommend the Giardini Don Guanella: located near the mouth of the river, it’s an ideal place to let your furry friend stretch his legs and if you pass by the Rubicone pedestrian bridge, don't forget to touch Julius Caesar's nose, as it is said to bring good luck.
Our advice for lunch is to try at least one of the "magnificent three" of Romagna street food: piade, crescioni and piada rolls, with the most typical Romagna wines.
In the afternoon, head to the “SgambEuropa” dog walking area (shaded and sunny areas, with benches and a fountain), where your dog can run free and socialize. It’s a perfect opportunity to relax, take a breath of fresh air and let your dog explore the landscape.
In the afternoon, if the walk takes place in May during the festival, treat yourself to a taste of the typical “cantarelle”, sweets similar to pancakes seasoned with sugar or honey, before returning to your accommodation or starting point.
The third day is dedicated to relaxation in San Mauro Mare. A welcoming location, perfect for those traveling with a dog. The morning begins with a walk on the beach: many areas are pet-friendly and allow access to dogs even in high season. Here your four-legged friend can run freely, play with the sand and maybe take a dip in the sea, if the weather permits.
After the beach, take a break at the Don Ivo Rossi Park, a green area with shaded areas, benches and the "Amici di Gulì" dog park area, where dogs can run freely. Just bring a frisbee or a ball with you to share a moment of play together next to the sea.
After lunch, in one of the many restaurants and kiosks in San Mauro Mare, which gladly welcome your pets, dedicate the afternoon to a walk along the seafront. A quiet and pleasant route, perfect for ending your trip.
If you visit the area during the low season, you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, listen to the sound of the waves and capture some memories with your dog in the beautiful setting of the sea.
