The exhibition “Antonio Canova e Bologna. Alle origini della Pinacoteca” wants to explore the relationship between Antonio Canova and the city of Bologna, its institutions and artists, highlighting the role of this sculptor in the history of the Pinacoteca Collection.
The master of Italian Neoclassicism contributed to diplomatic operations of extraordinary importance to recover from France the artistic heritage of the city, where it had been amassed after the Napoleonic suppressions.
Paintings, sculptures and manuscripts from various museum institutions, libraries and archives will be exhibited alongside the works of the Pinacoteca, whose permanent exhibition itinerary will be an integral part of the project.
