From March 28 to September 27, 2026, Palazzo Pepoli will host the exhibition "Frida Kahlo: The Gaze as Identity," featuring 70 original photographs by renowned artists such as Nickolas Muray and Leo Matiz.
Rather than a simple visual biography, the exhibition analyzes how the artist actively influenced the way she was portrayed, transforming her body into a powerful tool for storytelling and myth-making.
Through shifting and manifold images, the collection invites the audience to reflect on themes of identity and self-representation, moving beyond her modern commercial icon status. Instead of seeking a single "authentic" version, the exhibition explores Frida's ability to shape the observer's gaze, leaving visitors to interpret the complex relationship between her public image and her deepest essence.
