On Sunday, 3 December 2023, the Pinacoteca Civica "Le Scuole" in Pieve di Cento will inaugurate the refurbishment of the room dedicated to Guercino and his pupils with the exhibition of the cycle of ten frescoes representing the theme of Rinaldo and Armida, inspired by Torquato Tasso's Gerusalemme Liberata.

Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, known as Il Guercino, was an internationally renowned Italian painter.
In continuity with the Carracci, Guido Reni, Albani, Domenichino and Lanfranco, he constitutes one of the great painters of the Emilian school. Due to his skilful technique and original touch, he is one of the most representative artists of the mature Baroque phase. His production is characterised by strong contrasts of light and airy shading that create a characteristic freshness and transparency.

At 3.00 p.m., the Director of the Pinacoteca Civica di Cento, Lorenzo Lorenzini, and the President of the Centro Studi Internazionali Il Guercino, Valeria Tassinari, will illustrate the historical and artistic aspects of this important pictorial cycle and the enhancement and promotion actions put in place to promote the figure of the master from Cento, with the aim of highlighting his cultural and artistic importance.

The exhibition is part of the widespread project 'Itinerari Guerciniani' (Guercino Itineraries), which aims to help visitors discover the works by Il Guercino preserved in the numerous territories of Emilia-Romagna.
