The Estense Castle in Ferrara will host two exhibitions from July 5th to 26 December 26th, 2024: the first, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi, presents to the public over fifty paintings by Maurizio Bottoni, one of the most well-known and appreciated interpreters of contemporary figuration on a European level.
At a very young age, Bottoni frequented Giorgio de Chirico, who encouraged him to return “to the profession”. He soon dedicated himself to engraving and tempera on parchment, to the manual preparation of colours, to the ancient process of "incamottatura" (preparation of panels for painting) and, above all, he decided to follow the path, never again abandoned, of realistic painting, for which he constantly feeds on the examples of the great masters of the past.
The second retrospective, born from an idea by Vittorio Sgarbi and curated by Pietro Di Natale and Vasilij Gusella in collaboration with the Antonio Maria Nardi Archive in Rome, presents to the public over seventy works - including paintings, ink drawings and watercolors - by Antonio Maria Nardi, an eclectic artist. Known as a painter, illustrator but also as a sculptor, he created numerous works, in which he was able to bend the narrative vein to a language full of pathos and immediate usability and naturalism to the essential geometries of Brazilian modernism.
