Located on the Bolognese Apennines, Castel di Casio rises in the valley of the Limentra stream, in the stretch between Suviana Lake and the confluence with the Reno River. In medieval times it was home to the Capitani della Montagna (Captains of the Mountain), until the 16th century, when they were transferred to Vergato.
Castel di Casio is a town with a suggestive atmosphere: among the alleys of the old town, with the medieval-architecture houses that recall the medieval origin of the town, stands the ancient tower that is visible throughout the Limentra valley.
The proximity to Suviana Lake offers the possibility to also perform aquatic sports activities such as wind-surfing, renting canoes, paddle boats and deckchairs.
In August, the medieval re-enactment is traditionally held with a procession in period costumes and games.
A few kilometers from Castel di Casio, Badi is worth a visit, where there is the beautiful church dedicated to San Prospero dating back to the 17th century, which shows all the splendor of the Baroque era.
Also, in the territory of Badi, of particular architectural importance are the rural buildings of Ca' Vecchia, with an interesting decorated gate from the sixteenth century.
In Moscacchia there is an oratory that houses sixteenth-century frescoes and you can also visit the nucleus of fourteenth-century origin with the symbol of fecundity carved in bas relief on the jamb of some of the semi-circular windows in relief.
