A town in the Bolognese Apennines, it stands on the ridge in a scenic location that offers a view of rare charm over the Reno and Setta valleys.


Why visit it

It is a fundamental stop for an itinerary to discover the work and life of the famous Bolognese painter Giorgio Morandi. 

The house where the artist spent the summer is located at the entrance of the village and you can access it by taking guided tours upon reservation. Reachable after a couple of minutes walk you can also visit the fascinating barns of Campiaro, which are home to the "Giorgio Morandi" Documentation Centre and the archive of Count Cesare Mattei.

Don't miss

Rocchetta Mattei, a castle built in the nineteenth century by Count Cesare Mattei on the ruins of the ancient Rocca di Savignano. Object of numerous transformations, the building, an example of "esoteric" architecture, is presented to visitors as a maze of towers, monumental staircases, reception rooms, private rooms that recall different styles: from neo-medieval to neo-renaissance, from Moorish to Liberty.

The Church of S. Maria Assunta, in Riola, an architectural masterpiece created by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.

The medieval village of La Scola, in Vimignano, one of the best preserved of the entire Bolognese Apennines, very active in the summer with cultural events and art exhibitions.


In the surroundings

A few kilometers from the municipality, on the left side of the river Setta, Tudiano hosts an interesting fifteenth-century building: a tower-house with the symbols of the masters of Como, a famous medieval guild of masons and plasterers. Also, worth seeing is the oratory of S. Lorenzo.
