Monchio delle Corti is a village in the Apennines in the province of Parma going towards the Cento Laghi Park, a wonderful destination for excursions and trekking.

Why visit it

Monchio delle Corti is ideal for both summer and winter holidays being situated between Mount Sillara (1,861 m), Succiso Alp and Mount Caio (1,560 m).

There are a number of walks along old mule tracks, woodland paths and old trails.

Places to visit include the Church of Saints Lorenzo and Michele, a permanent exhibition of "Mountain Life" in the Town Hall and Lugagnano Bridge.

On the table

In the trattorias of the area, visitors can taste flavours of local products, cooked in the real mountain tradition. Handmade cured meats, polenta, game, porcini mushrooms and wild berries will satisfy the most finicky mouths.

Keeping fit

Not far from Monchio delle Corti, Prato Spilla is a ski and tourist area located at 1350 meters of altitude, on the border between the province of Massa Carrara and Reggio Emilia, in a great environmental territory which is part of the Cento Laghi Regional Park.
The ski resort with its lifts allows ski lovers, during winter time, to go skiing and, during summer time, the chair lift brings people up to the crest for hiking.

In the surroundings

Not to be missed in the area of Monchio delle Corti, but also an ideal destination for a day trip from Parma is the Parco dei Cento Laghi, which protects a portion of about 26000 hectares of the eastern Parma Apennines near the provinces of Reggio-Emilia and Massa-Carrara.
The presence of the different altimetric ranges (from 400 to 1650 m above sea level) guarantees a remarkable variety of environments and a high degree of biodiversity.
A hospitable and accessible mid-mountain environment, with trails suitable for everyone in summer and winter, mountain lakes, beautiful forests and cozy huts.

Not far from Monchio delle Corti is Casarola, a small village that was a sentimental place of the famous poet Attilio Bertolucci.
