Vetto is one of the municipalities in the middle Reggio Emilia Apennines; it boasts a happy location, on a natural balcony on the right bank of the Enza river. It is about 40 km from Reggio Emilia and 45 km from Parma. The high landscape value of the territory, rich in history and nature, has made it a Man and Biosphere Reserve recognized by UNESCO in 2015.

Why visit it

The first historical information dates back to the Middle Ages, when the Da Palù family dominated here, loyal to the famous Canossa, but a deep-rooted local tradition insists on Roman origins, founded on studies of toponymic character. Vetto village is divided into the three contiguous areas of "il borgo", "cà boccio", and "il castello", in which there are buildings of historical value including: the Church of San Lorenzo, restored in the mid-1600s with medieval origin, and the Osteria del Turo, a massive tower house of the 1600s.

Don't miss

It is worth taking a tour through the villages of Vetto, between the valleys of Enza, Tassaro and Tassobbio with the small towns and historic buildings, without forgetting to stop in one of the typical trattorias where you can taste the best traditional dishes.

Keeping fit

Around Vetto there are many paths to walk in nature enjoying the landscape. The green valleys of Tassaro and Tassobbio surround the villages and have become an ideal place for peaceful walks or hiking. The route of the Sentiero dei Ducati, a well-known trekking route in Emilia, passes right here.

Significant appointments

The Chestnut Festival is a must event: every year on the last Sunday of October, visitors can taste seasonal recipes and there is a fair with the most varied agricultural products and goods.

In the surroundings

Its hamlets have preserved architectural and environmental characteristics of the past, which can now be found in most of the Apennines. The small medieval villages of Crovara, Spigone, Pineto and Gottano are well preserved, as well as Legoreccio, the ancient feudal capital of the noble Da Palù family. The historical architecture has survived centuries and visitors can find ancient buildings, made of stone, with vaults, portals and towers.

In every hamlet it is possible to find an inn or a restaurant, to taste the typical dishes of the local tradition: tortelli, erbazzone, cold cuts and desserts cooked following the family recipes.
