In the area of the Emilian Apennines on the border between the provinces of Piacenza, Genoa, Pavia and Alessandria, the review of traditional music, song and dance “Appennino Festival” is held every year in the summer period. The 2025 edition starts on August 3 and ends on September 28.
Each event involves a small community, a village, in a hilly or mountainous area in the province of Piacenza. Corresponding to the physical landscape of the Apennines is a soundscape of great vitality and beauty that includes numerous dance forms and singing styles.
An ancient tradition made up of musical instruments and distinctive songs developed along the Via degli Abati, a route that, like the better-known Via Francigena, connected continental Europe to the Mediterranean. Even today, close to these borders, songs reminiscent of the Provence of the Troubadours and keep alive the ancient tradition born with the passage of pilgrims and travelers in this Apennine area.
