Correggio, 500 years later. From September 8, 2024, to January 31, 2025, Parma celebrates Antonio Allegri, known as Correggio, on the half-millennium since the conclusion of the most demanding of his artistic endeavours: the cycle of frescoes in the great dome of the Church of San Giovanni, in the Benedictine monastery with the same name in the heart of the city.
The celebration consists in lowering the frescoes from the dome’s sky to place them in close contact with the visitor, ensuring the vision of astonishing details and minute artistic solutions that the dome cannot offer in real life.
Visitors are also invited to experience another of Correggio‘s absolute masterpieces, the famous Abbess’s Chamber in the Monastery of San Paolo with a new immersive experience that allows viewers to learn about the history of the monastery and the genesis and meanings of Correggio‘s frescoes.
