Borgo Tossignano, founded in 1198, is situated in the Santerno Valley, surrounded by the Regional Park.

This Municipality is made up of two villages: Borgo, at the bottom of the valley, and Tossignano facing the Vena del Gesso Romagna Regional Park.


Why visit it

The Gypsum Vein and the Santerno River are the landscape features characterizing the evironmental charm of the land and the history of this town.

The western entrance to the Gyspum Vein Regional Park is located in Borgo Tossignano: at La Casa del Fiume visitors center, in via Rineggio, information on the area and the park is provided as well as useful suggestions from the Environmental and Hiking Guide.

In Tossignano, hosted inside the Palazzo Baronale, there is the Geological Museum of the Gypsum Vein (Vena del gesso): a wisely organised exposition itinerary will lead visitors to the discovery of the geological wonders of the Park.


When to go and what to see

The micro-climate in the Gypsum Vein Regional Park allows for visits all year round: every season will win over visitors with the park's colors and frangrances.

The Riverside Park of Borgo Tossignano is a green relaxing area, for kids, families and nature lovers.

From the ruins of Tossignano castle, enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over San Biagio Crag, one of the most famous in the Gypsum Vein.


Keeping fit

The territory of Mordano, Imola, Casalfiumanese, Borgo Tossignano, Fontanelice, and Castel del Rio is crossed by the Santerno Cycle Route: a scenic bike ride for any kind of cycling tourist who wishes to be surrounded by nature. Santerno Cycle Route is a mixed trail of gravel and paved roads, connecting the plain of Imola area to the Apennines, from Mordano to Castel del Rio.


Significant appointments

This traditional event for Mardi Gras on the last day of Carnival with Tossignano's Polenta Fest and Borgo's Maccheroni Fest reenact an ancient local rivalry with two parallel events.


In the surroundings

There is Castel del Rio with the Alidosi Palace and a humpback bridge.

Also Imola, a lovely city with its Fortress and International Racetrack.
