A few kilometres from San Marino and Riccione, the territory of Coriano offers the tranquillity of an inland town. It has ancient origins and was certainly dominated by the Umbrians, the Etruscans and the Romans.
Beautiful countryside that of Coriano, made up of fields with valuable crops such as vines and olives, with farmhouses and inhabited and well-preserved ancient villages. The feeling for those who pass through this part of the Malatesta Seignory is that of being in a rich land where people have lived well for millennia, as indeed evidenced by the relics and monuments found here.
The sea is just a few steps away, and toward the mountains we find the characteristic profile of Mount Titano of the nearby Republic of San Marino. Coriano is the main center of the Marano Creek Valley, which runs from the hills on the border between the Marche and San Marino down a 30-kilometer stretch to the beaches between Riccione and Rimini.
Today this valley offers a surprising island of greenery, close to major centers, excellently equipped for many outdoor activities.
English War Cemetery
It is one of the biggest Italian Foreign Cemeteries. It is considered a garden-cemetery because of the many flowers that are present in it. The construction of this cemetery is the dramatic result of the "Gothic Line" breaking down, that ended the Second World War. The Commonwealth Authorities take care of the cemetery.
Municipal Theatre Corte
One of the few buildings that survived the war dates back to the 19th century and was designed by Alessandro Ferri, a pupil of Luigi Poletti, father of Rimini's Teatro Galli.
Museo Marco Simoncelli - La storia del SIC
This museum and art gallery is a journey through the achievements of the beloved motorcycle rider Marco Simoncelli (Sic ).
In front of the museum it is possible to stop at the monument dedicated to Sic and see every Sunday at sunset The Flame that lights up for 58 seconds.
Coriano Castle, built in the 13th century by the Malatesta family of Rimini, is still a fascinating place, set in a beautiful rural context. Of the ancient nucleus, imposing ruins of the fortified enclosure remain, polygonal in shape, with scarp walls and curtain walls with corbels. The 14th-century tower is imposing and inside is the icehouse-novar, one of the largest in Romagna. The stone coat of arms of the Sassatelli family of Imola, who received the castle as a gift from the Pope from 1528 to 1580, stands out on the entrance door.
Marano Valley
In the central part of the Malatesta Lordship, right between the Marecchia and Conca valleys, the Marano valley opens out. In the centre of the valley is Coriano, near which there is a beautiful river park.
