Every year in September, Castelvetro di Modena goes back in time with two historical reenactments that alternate each year. La Dama Vivente and Festa a Castello are the two eagerly awaited events that transport visitors back to the Renaissance.
Their setting is the charming square with black and white paving stones, known as "della Dama," (checkerboard) which is surrounded by the historic buildings of the village: the Clock Tower, the Town Hall, and Palazzo Rinaldi.
La Dama Vivente takes place in even-numbered years and commemorates the celebrations held by the Rangone marquises in honor of the poet Torquato Tasso, who sought refuge in Castelvetro di Modena in 1564.
In odd-numbered years, Festa a Castello is held and features a lavish Renaissance banquet.
