The MAST FOUNDATION presents the new exhibition curated by Urs Stahel dedicated to workwear which, with over 600 pictures by great international photographers, shows the many types of clothing worn by workers in different historical, social and professional settings.
The exhibition focuses on workwear and uniforms through the images of 44 photographers and a monographic exhibition of Walead Beshty that brings together hundreds of portraits of art world insiders met by the artist, for whom professional clothing is a hallmark and a sort of tacit code of the anti-uniform.
Designed to distinguish those who wear them, on one hand uniforms indicate that one belongs to a category, an order or a corps, without distinction of class or background, while on the other they can highlight the wearer's separation from the community. The word "uniform" simultaneously reveals inclusion and exclusion.
