Immersed in the Piacenza plain a few kilometres from Piacenza and Cremona near the river Po.

Why visit it

Villanova is known above all for having hosted the famous musician Giuseppe Verdi, who moved there in 1851 with his second wife Giuseppina Strepponi. From here he expanded his social and political commitment, also distinguishing himself as a landowner and cattle breeder.

When to go and what to see

The most magical time to enjoy the natural beauty at its best is between late spring and summer when it is possible to walk or cycle among the blossoming cherry trees.

Don't miss

Worth seeing is the monument to Giuseppe Verdi, located at the entrance to the hospital, which the Maestro wanted to donate to the town of Piacenza.

On the table

The delicacy that makes Villanova famous is cherries, and typical river fish dishes are also served here.

Keeping fit

The flat area, accessible embankments and the presence of a park create a suitable environment for cycling, running and walking.

Significant appointments

The traditional cherry festival in June.

In the surroundings

Nearby, of particular natural interest is the Giarola Island Park. A natural oasis for birdwatching, walking and discovering an ecosystem linked to the Po River.
