Not only for golf lovers, but also for those who wish to experience the game of golf for the first time, it is possible to spend a day on the “highest” golf course in Emilia Romagna: Monte Cimone Golf Club, standing at 1,000 metres above sea level, and open from May to October.
Immersed in an area of stunning natural beauty, halfway between the villages of Sestola and Fanano, Monte Cimone Golf Club offers golf-lovers a 9-hole, par-34 course, a driving range with ten bays (150 metres in length) and a putting green next to the club house.
The golf course winds its way through oak and beech woods; it isn’t exceptionally long, but requires accurate tee-shots and, as it is full of elevation changes, makes for an absorbing, challenging game.
After playing golf, you can head towards the centre of Sestola, to the castle. “La Rocca” or fortress, as it is called by the people of Sestola, stands high on a rocky cliff and offers panoramic views of the mountains and the entire plain below.
The Castle is home to museums and the “Parco della Covetta”, a natural amphitheatre tucked next to the castle walls, which, with its enchanting atmosphere of bygone times, provides an enchanting setting ideal for a walk or simply to stop and breath in the fresh air of the pine forest.
We strongly recommend spending some time on the fitness trail which runs alongside the castle walls: the “life trail”, a shady path which winds through the pine wood, with exercise stations and instructions to perform physical exercises.
With a feeling of well-being gained from physical exercise in the fresh open-air, we round off our day by moving on to the nearby charming village of Fanano, which - with its picturesque corners, historical churches such as the Parish Church of San Silvestro and the Church of Saint Joseph, fifteenth-century villas and the Gothic Line Museum in Trignano housing wartime relics from all over the world - is the perfect place to end our day on a cultural note!
