In winter the Modena Apennine which is characterised by imposing peaks and breathtaking landscapes turns into a magical place.
The mountains are dressed in white and offer a unique experience for those who want to spend a day of sport, immersed in the beauty of this territory.
Snow-covered peaks, a bit of physical activity and a sip of mulled wine accompanied by some crescentina, all together can only warm your heart
Skiing in the Cimone ski resort is a must for snow lovers. More than 50 km of slopes and several ski resorts equipped with rentals and refreshments areas are ready to welcome you, providing everything you need to spend a wonderful day.
If skiing doesn't appeal to you but you want to spend a day on the slopes, then a bobsleigh ride could be the alternative for you. At Passo del Lupo in Sestola, with a dedicated ski lift, you will find the very first bobsleigh track in the Apennines, 700 metres long with 120 metres of difference in height and parabolic curves that guarantee unique fun.
And after a whole day spent on the slopes, what do you do? A couple of snacks and some toast, not necessarily alcoholic, accompanied by music and lots of company awaits you in the refuges next to the slopes where you can also enjoy a warm lunch
In addition - or alternatively, for those who do not like speed - it is possible to take part in a snowshoe hike in the forest or a winter trekking.
Among the various possibilities, there is a recommended path that starts from Ninfa Lake and arrives at the mountain huts of the Cimoncino ski resort (on Fanano area), passing close to a ski connection. The trek is easy and takes about an hour and a half. It starts to the left of the car park Ninfa Lake, taking a tarmac road for about 100 metres; at the first bend, on the right, is the start of the path, which widens out and then goes directly into the woods.
To return, you can use the path taken on the outward journey or lengthen the return journey by following the route of the old cross-country skiing track that winds its way through the wood.
In the afternoon, then, once you get off the ice rink, the Fanano ice rink awaits to provide you with moments of pure fun; suitable for families, children, and groups of friends wishing to experience the thrill of ice skating.
And for those who then fall in love with this sport and want to get better and better at it? Various instructors in the facility offer figure skating and hockey courses.
At the ice rink you can find skate rental, changing rooms and a well-equipped bar to take a well-deserved break after a few laps around the rink.
Open both in the morning and in the afternoon until around midnight, you can't miss it!
