The village is just a few kilometres from Bagnacavallo, on the Lamone river banks.
Villanova di Bagnacavallo is also known as the "village of the five plants”; indeed, it is well known for its Ecomuseo delle Erbe Palustri (Ecological Museum of Marsh Civilization), for its interesting Etnoparco, for its Autumn Feast and spring street markets.
The rich collection of the Ecomuseo delle Erbe Palustri includes objects made with marsh plants and local woods (poplar and willow) in the pre-industrial age. The Centre is divided into different sections and includes also a meeting and a multimedia room. The museum also features Etnoparco "Villanova delle capanne", an outdoor display of reconstructions of local thatched huts.
The Canadian Cemetery (Cimitero Canadese) lies just few steps away. Designed by the architect Louis De Soissons, it was built and is being maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission; it is for Canadian and British soldiers.
"Rabòj market" is the name of the colourful spring street markets featuring antiques, vintage and arts and craft objects; they take place on the first Sundays of April and May.
During the village fair "Sagra della civiltà delle erbe palustri" (Festival of Marsh Grasses), in the second week of September, traditions and good food take centre stage. This is a great opportunity to witness the local elders as they skilfully create objects out of marsh plants.
