The Museo Civico delle Cappuccine, located in the former Convent of San Francesco in Bagnacavallo, a few kilometres from Ravenna, is inaugurating a large-scale project dedicated to the 20th-century painter Mattia Moreni, involving five museums in Romagna in five exhibitions linked to significant places in his life.

The first exhibition, “Dagli esordi ai cartelli” (From the beginnings to the posters), curated by Claudio Spadoni and Davide Caroli, traces the first twenty years of the artist's career: from his early influences (Nordic painters, Art Nouveau, Ferrara painters of the 15th century), to his successes with awards and participation in the Biennale and Quadriennale, to his adherence to the abstract/concrete movement and then to the Informal movement, which brought him international fame in France and Germany.

The last part of the exhibition focuses on the more personal pictorial language of the following years, centred on the “posters” with which Moreni recounted a reality in transformation.

Over 40 works are on display, many from private collections and previously exhibited in important museums.
