The small village is close to Bertinoro and it is famous for the San Domenico in Polenta parish church, an ancient Romanesque basilica.

When to go and what to see

Carducci developed the idea that Dante had been hosted during his exile by the noble family ruling Polenta village.
Therefore, every year Polenta is the host of cultural and literary happenings such as “Raduno Carducciano” and “Lecturae Dantis”.
The parish church has a basilical plan, a visible truss system and the nave is on the same level as the aisles. The columns are large and round, with layers of bricks and local stones, topped off by capitals with bas relief of arabesque geometric designs and grottesque figures of men and animals recalling different artistic styles moving from Longobard to Byzantine art.

The night view from the parish church is beautiful.

Few traces of the ancient Polentani Castle can be seen on the top of the nearby hill, which has the same name.
