Once upon a time, on Ferragosto (15th August), the ‘Macchinoni’ were burned in Piazza Cavalli. Wooden structures representing monuments such as the Eiffel Tower or the Tower of London occupied the heart of the city, attracting locals and tourists alike. The highlight of the festival was the fireworks display that accompanied their explosion!
In more recent times, the celebrations have moved to locations in the province, particularly in Val Trebbia. The city becomes quieter in the heat, but is always ready to welcome tourists interested in visiting the city, museums or taking an exceptional tour of the cathedral.
