An important exhibition programme has placed attention on how much the presence of artists such as Raphael, Michelangelo or Bramante meant to Bologna

A presence that concludes with the taking of power by the Pontifical State in the name of Pope Julius II della Rovere.
And it is the display of Raphael's Portrait of Julius II, one of the masterpieces of Renaissance portraiture, which initiates this fascinating and original exhibition.

Curated by Maria Luisa Pacelli, Daniele Benati and Elena Rossoni and hosted by the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna, which for this occasion revisited its entire Renaissance section, with a new visiting itinerary that explores the artistic paths associated with Bologna art from the time of Bentivoglio, to the coronation of Charles V.

The exhibition will occupy the rooms of the Renaissance section of the Pinacoteca, where the museum's works will be compared and contrasted with important national and international loans. A space of the exhibition is instead reserved to those masterpieces that have been lost forever due to various events, such as the Tomb of Pope Julius II by Michelangelo, the Garganelli Chapel with its frescoes, the Bentivoglio Palace and Bramante's architectural interventions.
