The "Historia bella" narrates that Frederick I of Swabia, called "Barbarossa", was passing through Medicina.
He became seriously ill. Then, thanks to a broth in which a snake had inadvertently fallen, he regained his strength.
It also tells how, as a sign of recognition towards the inhabitants of the town, the emperor wanted to name it Medicina (medicine) making it autonomous from Bologna, setting its boundaries and recognizing its privileges and exemptions.

History, legend, and fantasy are the components of the extraordinary collective creativity that gives life to this great celebration, a commemoration that involves the enthusiasm of a whole territory.
The Castellani are preparing to welcome the arrival of the emperor, the castle prepares a feast, the keepers of the towers prepare libations and the typical dishes of their land.
The whole city will plunge into a medieval atmosphere.

Over two thousand people and artists will fill the squares and the streets with over twenty refreshment points set up around the historic center.
