Located in the territory of the municipality of Lizzano in Belvedere, at the extreme southern edge of the province of Bologna, on the border with Pistoia, at 1,945 meters high, it is the highest peak of the Bolognese Apennines.

Why visit it

Renowned for the presence of an important and well-equipped ski resort and the regional park of the same name, its rocky cliffs represent a natural environment of rare beauty and integrity.

In spring, the area turns into an outdoor gym where you can go hiking and mountain biking or walk along the ridge to discover the numerous and fascinating botanical species.

When to go and what to see

Corno alle Scale deserves a visit in every season of the year: in winter, for those who love speed and fun, there are the slopes named after Alberto Tomba, where the Bologna champion often comes to ski. For those who instead want to experience something different, there are numerous trails for alpine skiing and a very modern snowboarding park, where you can practice your acrobatics on a snowboard.

In spring, this area becomes an outdoor gym, where you can go hiking or mountain biking. Or you can simply walk along the ridge and discover the many botanicals here and enjoy an amazing panorama which looks out over the Apennines and the Apuan Alps.

Don't miss

Among the many great trails, a visit to Scaffaiolo Lake is recommended. Located exactly on the ridge of the mountain, it has no tributaries and no effluent and it is for this reason that it is a mysterious and legendary place which was also cited by Boccaccio in his works.

In the surroundings

Worth a visit is the ethnographic museum of Poggiolforato (km 12) dedicated to the crafts and mountain culture and the Visitor Centers of the Park Corno alle scale of Pian d'Ivo, near Madonna dell'Acero (km 3).
