A gate to the Apennines, this area is rich in history and both the landscape and its geological aspects are very remarkable.

Why visit it

The valleys are surrounded by more than 1300 mt high mountains: from the East to the West mount Carameto, mount Lama (with its top characterised by huge prairies), mount Menegosa (imposing rocky structure), and mount Santa Franca. In the direction of the flat land, the two valleys are separated by mount Morìa, a 1000 metre plateau characterised by large meadows and woods.

In the village, S. Maria Assunta church, built in the 17th century, is worth a visit.

Nearby, there are Monte Moria Park, Sperongia and Monastero, a name indicating several rural settlements, with characteristic examples of the Apennine’s typical stone architecture. The toponym ‘Val di Tolla’ is connected to the legend of a vanished valley.

In Morfasso you can go horse riding, orienteering, mountain biking and climbing.

This area is part of ‘La Grande Ippovia - Appennino Emilia Romagna’ Horseway.

On the table

The few dairies left in the Apennine areas are dedicated to the production of Grana Padano, ricotta, various types of cheese often sold directly in the weekly markets of these towns.

The cured meats are the right complement to any meal that wants to respect local traditions. The coarse-grained salami, coppa and pancetta find in these places their ideal environment for proper ageing. The excellent quality of the meat and the skill of the master butchers are combined with a mild climate, which boasts the right level of humidity and the influence of the sea breeze coming from Liguria.
