The freedom of traveling in a camper goes well with the uncontaminated nature of the Bolognese mountains, full of suggestive places where you can stop off for a relaxing holiday.
Exploring the Regional Parks is a perfect way to explore the most spectacular corners of the Apennines, including lakes, high mountain landscapes and memories of the Gothic Line.
Monte Sole historical park is an area that extends between the hills between the Reno and Setta valleys, between woods and meadows: with a camper it is possible to park in the car park not far from the "Il Poggiolo" visitor center of the regional park.
From a naturalistic point of view there is a vast network of paths, furthermore in spring it is possible to observe the flowering of wild orchids, while in autumn you can listen to the roar of deer, during the mating season of ungulates.
The Monte Sole area is known above all for the historical events that involved it in the autumn of 1944, when at the end of the Second World War a commando of German soldiers exterminated the inhabitants of some towns in the area. The memory of the tragic events can be retraced thanks to various thematic itineraries which, starting from the visitor center, retrace the places of the massacre until reaching the small cemetery where the victims rest.
In Marzabotto, a few km from the Park area, it is possible to visit the interesting archaeological site of Kainua, an Etruscan city of which you can observe buildings, the acropolis area and also the necropolis. The finds recovered during the excavations are exhibited in the adjacent "Pompeo Aria" archaeological museum.
To visit the Suviana and Brasimone Lakes Regional Park by camper it is possible to park in the dedicated parking areas adjacent to both basins. Suviana and Brasimone are two artificial reservoirs, used for the production of electricity. On the banks of both there are car parks, picnic areas (complete with freely usable grills) and infrastructure such as kiosks and restaurants. The shores of the lake are a perfect place to spend relaxing moments immersed in nature, walking or cycling along the CAI paths or visiting the small villages in the Park area, such as Bargi, Stagno, Camugnano and Castel di Casio .
From Lake Brasimone, a walk through the Poranceto forest is certainly recommended, where it is possible to visit the park's visitor center, or along the “Anello delle Fontane”, a circular route starting from Camugnano that touches the lake. From Suviana, however, the Porretta spa is easily reachable, famous for the healing qualities of their waters.
The Corno alle Scale Regional Park extends around the mountain of the same name, the highest in the Bolognese Apennines (1945 m above sea level).
Campers can park near the Cavone lake, an excellent point to start a walk at high altitude and strategically close to the ski lifts, some operating in both summer and winter, to serve the ski resort. Unmissable are the itineraries that lead to the cross located on the summit of Corno, where you can observe many botanical species belonging to the alpine flora, and to Lake Scaffaiolo, a small body of water located on the border with the Modena Apennines.
A short distance from Cavone, descending towards the villages of Vidiciatico and Lizzano in Belvedere, there is the valuable sanctuary of Madonna dell'Acero, from which the CAI path starts which leads to the Dardagna waterfalls (the first easily reachable thanks to an itinerary of tourist difficulty).
Also recommended are a visit to the medieval village of Monteacuto delle Alpi, where time seems to have stopped, and, for those who decide to visit Corno alle Scale in summer, a dip in the pool at the "Conca del Sole" in Vidiciatico.
