  • First stop - Old town and Captain's Palace Bagno di Romagna

A trip to Bagno di Romagna begins with a stroll through the historic heart of the village: the ancient cobblestone streets, elegant facades and lively Piazza Ricasoli-an authentic urban living room-welcome visitors with the imposing profile of the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta with its square bell tower, the Grand Hotel Terme Roseo and the historic former Magistrate's Court.

A few steps away, along the elegant Via Fiorentina, stands the Palazzo del Capitano, one of the town's symbolic buildings. Its facade recounts, through its stone coats of arms, the centuries-long Florentine rule over this part of Romagna, which lasted from 1404 to 1923. Today the palace is home to the IAT, the Visitor Center of the Casentino Forest National Park, , with thematic rooms and spaces for temporary exhibitions. At the back, a pleasant detour leads to Via Palestro and the charming Voltone alley: small glimpses that preserve the authenticity of the village. Also located inside the palace are the Library and the Municipal Historical Archives, which are attracting increasing interest from visitors.

    Tips

The thematic rooms of the Visitor Center of the Casentino Forest National Park, and in particular the interactive rooms dedicated to children with fun games to discover the fauna of the forests and the immersive room dedicated to Sassofratino, the precious integral reserve of the Park (UNESCO heritage site).

  • Second stop - Trail of the Gnomes Bagno di Romagna

Not far from the central square you can reach the “magical” Gnome Trail.

An unmissable experience for those visiting Bagno di Romagna with children-but not only-an easy and immersive itinerary that starts from the public gardens on Lungosavio Street.

After crossing the bridge over the Savio River, the path, marked by a colorful sign, immediately enters the woods, among rocks, lush vegetation and the gentle flow of the Armina stream. Along the 2 km of the path, which is wide and safe, there are wooden bridges, sculptures, animal silhouettes, illustrated signs and miniature houses where children leave messages for their friends the Gnomes: an enchanted world that stimulates the imagination of the little ones and enchants adults as well.

At the height of a natural spring, you enter the picturesque “Gnome Glade,” where you can stop on logs and wooden benches before closing the loop and heading back toward the village (about 45 minutes in total). A small journey between nature and imagination, to be experienced slowly and with curious eyes.

  • Third stop - Wellness forest Bagno di Romagna

The discovery of Bagno di Romagna continues with a rejuvenating break at the Bosco del Benessere, a short 1.4-kilometer loop trail, within walking distance of the town's historic center, designed to awaken the senses and regenerate the body through deep contact with nature.

Here forest bathing is practiced with the aim of receiving complete psychophysical benefits, basically a form of therapy without medicine.

The trail is divided into 9 thematic stages, each dedicated to a different sensory experience, and is accessible all year round. A simple, natural and profound way to reconnect with oneself in the silence of the mountains.

The forest is also suitable for young children who can immerse themselves in a unique naturalistic oasis: they will be able to discover the 9 stages of the trail with curiosity, lying in the wooden beds to listen to the sounds of the forest or observe the local flora and fauna.

    Need to know

Did you know that the more time you spend in the forest, immersed in nature, the more health benefits you have? In fact, a slow, mindful walk among the trees, scents and sounds of the forest is capable of promoting tissue oxygenation, lowering stress levels and producing vitamin D.

  • Fourth stop - Thermal relaxation Bagno di Romagna

After a full immersion in nature and history, it is time to indulge the body with a break of pure relaxation in the healthy thermal waters of Bagno di Romagna.

The historic spas offer a variety of relaxation options: hot pools, wellness paths and regenerating treatments that draw on a long tradition of hospitality and care.

A couple of hours immersed in the mineral-rich waters or entrusted to the expert hands of the operators are a panacea for mind and body. The perfect opportunity to release tension and reconnect with oneself. A moment of deep pause, combining healing, silence and pleasure.

    Tips

At the end of the day, before staying in one of the accommodations in the village, it is recommended to indulge in a gastronomic break in one of the many restaurants that offer specialties based on typical local products, such as mushrooms, truffles and tasty raviggioli. Alternatively, you can opt for a stop at the kiosks surrounded by greenery, where you can enjoy a delicious piadina romagnola.

  • Fifth stop - Chiardovo sulfur spring Bagno di Romagna

Early in the morning, a few minutes from the center, you can opt for a regenerating route, surrounded by greenery.

A level walk along an avenue shaded by linden trees leads to the Chiardovo Spring, nestled in a small valley crossed by the Volanello stream.
The path, about 1 km long, is paved, closed to traffic and bordered by vegetable gardens and cultivated fields-a perfect green oasis for relaxing. Along the way, benches, chess tables and rest areas invite you to stop and enjoy the quiet.
At the end of the avenue you come to the spring, from which a cold, oligomineral sulfur-bicarbonate water gushes forth, with a characteristic sulfurous odor, known for its purifying properties, especially for the liver and biliary and gastrointestinal tracts.

A simple but rejuvenating place where nature and health meet.

  • Sixth stop - Comero Lakes Bagno di Romagna

Just a few minutes' drive from downtown, the Comero Lakes offer a relaxing break at the foot of the mountain of the same name: small oases of water surrounded by greenery, ideal especially in the warmer months to regenerate.

Lake Lungo, Lake Pontini and Acquapartita Lake are framed by lush forests and offer perfect views for relaxing or simply admiring the scenery.

At sunset, the golden reflection on the water creates an enchanted atmosphere, to be experienced perhaps with a lunch or dinner of typical dishes at one of the restaurants overlooking the shores.

A simple but authentic experience, perfect for those who love nature and silence.

    Tips

The three lakes also offer sport fishing activities. They can be the perfect location for self-prepared picnics or delicious mushroom and truffle lunches at restaurants overlooking the lakeshore.

  • Seventh stop - outing to the Ridracoli Dam Bagno di Romagna

About a half-hour drive from Bagno di Romagna, in the heart of the Casentino Forest National Park, is the spectacular Ridracoli Dam, one of the most fascinating examples of the harmony between engineering and nature.

Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, the dam offers a wide range of activities for the whole family:

    • excursions by canoe or electric boat on the large artificial lake
    • trekking to discover picturesque places
    • e-bike excursions
    • Idro Ecomuseo, a museum center entirely dedicated to water

The Ridracoli Dam and its museum are an ideal destination for families with children. Here, little ones can explore unspoiled nature and discover the workings of one of the region's most important hydraulic works. The museum offers interactive exhibits and educational activities that stimulate children's curiosity, making learning fun. In addition, outdoor trails allow for breathtaking views and outdoor adventures, making the visit an unforgettable experience for young and old alike.

A perfect excursion to end the day or enrich your stay with an active and immersive experience amidst mountains, forests and crystal clear water: a vacation within a vacation that leaves you breathless!
