The Reggio Emilia Apennines is a place dedicated for decades to winter tourism, with its three small and equipped ski resorts suitable for lovers of alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, which is combined with the offer of outdoor activities, especially hiking and snowshoeing with certified guides.

The winter days spent in the Reggio Apennines, usually end pleasantly: at the table, in a restaurant or in a lodge, with a delicious traditional meal.

We propose a three-day itinerary that touches all three locations, one per day: Cerreto Laghi, Ventasso Laghi and Febbio - Alpe di Cusna, which are located between 1200 and 1300 m. altitude.

Among the peaks, lakes and valleys of this fascinating territory, winter sports lovers will find places off the beaten path of mass tourism, immersed in evocative views in the National Park of the Tuscan Emilian Apennines.

All the accommodation in this area is online on the website of the local Tourism Office Appennino reggiano.

  • First stop - Cusna Alp - Febbio Febbio

The first tourist resort of our winter itinerary is located in the municipality of Villa Minozzo at the foot of Mount Cusna.

Alpe di Cusna, in Febbio, is a small ski resort, with a children’s school and a chairlift that connects the slopes up to 2000 m. (at the moment you get to 1500 because a line is under maintenance). There are refreshment points both at the departure and arrival of the lifts.

The station also opens in summer, from June to September, and has a bike park with many mtb trails.

There is also a game area for children and the "Tubby Track" with inflatables (three years old and up).

In addition to alpine skiing it is possible to go snowshoeing on the paths around mount Cusna, thanks to the certified guides who organize them throughout the winter, to admire an area of great natural and landscape value.

In Febbio and its surroundings there are various types of accommodation, for those who want to stay a few days to enjoy the mountain.

  • Second stop - Ventasso Laghi Ventasso Laghi

Ventasso Laghi is a small tourist resort, on the mountain with the same name, known for the beauty of Lake Calamone, one of the most visited places in the Apennines of Reggio Emilia, and it is suitable for families with children who want to start skiing, because the slopes do not have high degrees of difficulty.

The ski lifts carry skiers up to about 1600 m. and allow you to ski on 11 km of slopes.

It is possible to rent equipment and snowshoes, and there is a play area and a bobsleigh track for children.

The walk to the lake is a real classic, for adults and children, because the Calamone is charming in every season and can be reached with an easy walk of about 2 km.

The station has campsites, an inn and two dining options for those who want to stay more than a day.

  • Third stop - Cerreto Laghi Cerreto Laghi

Cerreto Laghi, in the municipality of Ventasso takes its name from the small glacial lakes located at an altitude of 1300 m, between the Cerreto Pass and the mount La Nuda.

It is the largest tourist resort in the Reggio Apennines, with 28 km of slopes of varying difficulty, and cross-country ski trails located at Lake Pranda.

A place where the beauty of the landscape of the National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines is combined with the presence of modern accommodation, hotels and camping with spas, restaurants, clubs and shops.

Visitors will find a school camp, a baby park, a snow park and at the top of the chairlift there is the Rifugio La Piella, to stop and eat or drink something; it is always open together with the lifts.

The chairlift opens also in summer time, from June to September, as the dense network of CAI trails and mountain bike trails together with skiing represent a tourist offering with sports and outdoor activities for all the months of the year.
